Nerja is one of the most beautiful coastal towns in Andalucia

Beautiful turquoise coves, white streets, restaurants overlooking the sea, walks along the Mediterranean coast, water activities, routes and lots of sunshine… Nerja is a paradise.

Nerja is one of those villages on the Mediterranean that has an elf, a village that is made of itself, that has something special, one of those so-called white villages with charm, and if it is on the edge of the Mediterranean then almost better.

On the Eastern Costa del Sol

Nerja is situated on the Eastern Costa del Sol, and is the last coastal town with Maro that borders the Tropical Coast of Granada. Its subtropical climate, its temperature, its 320 days of sunshine a year, make Nerja the ideal place for many families to decide to spend their holidays here.

The best weather in Europe

The strip of coast between Nerja and Torrox is said to have “the best climate in Europe”. This particular situation is due on the one hand to the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea, which reduces the thermal amplitude, and on the other hand to the shelter of the Sierra Almijara, a combination that makes the temperatures in Nerja, Torrox and Frigiliana moderate in both winter and summer. This reality is not only a slogan, a scientific study developed by a specialized company that has analyzed different comparative variables, has authenticated that this area has the privilege of having “the best climate in Europe”.

The subtropical climate and the avocado

Nerja’s climate is Mediterranean, but it also has some characteristics of subtropical climates, with the difference that the humidity is minimal and the temperature is totally stable, maintaining itself at an annual average of 20º, it has mild summers in comparison with the rest of the Andalusian towns, and warm winters. This subtropical climate helps to grow mangos, cherimoyas, papayas and all kinds of tropical fruits . Above all, “the avocado”, which is said to be one of the best varieties in the world for its texture and flavour.

A white village on the Costa del Sol

Narrow streets and white houses, courtyards with flowers and viewpoints make up the Historical Centre of Nerja. The most popular places in the centre are the Balcón de Europa, Plaza Cavana, Calle Pintada and Almirante Ferrándiz, where you can find many shops, typical souvenir shops for tourists, restaurants with sea views, typical tapas bars, ice-cream parlours and fashionable shops.

The beaches and coves of Nerja

In Nerja we will find intimate coves and wide beaches. The beaches of Nerja have all the services, such as showers, toilets, beach bars, promenade etc… Like the Burriana beach, which is a 5 star beach, or the Playazo beach, which is wide and has parking, although it does not have many services.

There are also smaller, more intimate coves with a lot of charm, some more hidden than others like Carabeo and Carabeillo, others with turquoise waters and rocks like Calahonda and Chorrillo, their transparent waters are a real delight to dive and snorkel. In most of them you have to go down stairs but it is worth it.

The Balcony of Europe

It is possibly the most renowned site in Nerja. It is a spectacular viewpoint open to a truly spectacular panorama of sea and mountains. The base seems to be floating on top of a cliff, from here you can see both the sunset and the sunrise, both spectacular. On the Paseo del Balcón de Europa there are cafes, restaurants, bars, ice-cream parlours, street artists and horse-drawn carriages for a stroll through the old town of Nerja.
