Spectacular road and landscape

What used to be one of the most dangerous roads in the world built by man, has now been rehabilitated and renovated, suitable for the enjoyment of anyone who wants a little adventure

The Caminito del Rey is a legendary road in the province of Malaga, it is located within the El Chorro Natural Park, this forms one of the most spectacular landscapes of the Malaga mountains, with steep vertical walls and considerable height. It was also one of the most dangerous until it was restored, and before that it was known as one of the most dangerous paths in the world. Today it is a beautiful walk within a majestic natural environment, an easy excursion that leaves no one indifferent. It is not recommended for people who suffer from vertigo or fear of heights.

Unforgettable experience, if you don’t have vertigo

The route is linear, not circular, with ups and downs, with spectacular vertical stone walls that run for almost half a kilometre. The River Guadalhorce flows downstream after passing through the El Chorro reservoir. The distance to be covered in the “Caminito” is about 8 km, of which 4.5 km is access and another 3.5 km is door to door from the footbridges. Because of how dangerous the old road was until it was restored, the footbridge is the most amazing part of the journey.

There are two entrances, one through Ardales and the other through El Chorro. The estimated time to walk it is 3 to 4 hours. You don’t have to be an athlete to do it but you have to be in minimum physical condition. You can walk the Caminito either on your own or with a guide. The guide will point out details that you would miss and explain some things that will make you understand the difficulty of the walk and its subsequent restoration.

After the Caminito

Many people after the Caminito del Rey go to the shops and restaurants in Ardales, where they eat well and at a fair price. Some of them, such as “El Mirador Restaurant”, have a privileged view of the Pantano del Chorro. In the hot season people bathe in this swamp, as there are areas that are enabled for this, and they can even rent kayaks or pedal boats.
